What is minimum ignition energy?

The minimum quantity of energy which must be introduced to the location (in the form of flame, spark, shock, friction, etc.) to cause ignition of an explosive atmosphere. The majority of industrial ignition sources contain much higher energy levels than this minimum ignition energy, which is always low (from tens of microjoules for gas and vapours to hundreds of millijoules for dusts).
